Borneo International Beads Conference

Following on my talk on Zulu beadwork at the Sarawak Museum in December, I was invited to return to the Borneo International Beads Conference in october 2011, bringing a beader to demonstrate and sell Zulu beadwork.  I have chosen to take two beaders, because the lady I wanted speaks little English and needs a translator.  Their names are Doris Mwelase and Nokuphila Mthembu.  The conference runs from 7 to 9 October and I am trying to squeeze in two more days so I can take them to see some craft places before they have to go.

Crafthub, the organisers of the conference have sponsored our entry and accommodation.  Yesterday we heard the exciting news that the Commonwealth Foundation have agreed to pay for our travel costs as part of their intercultural exchange between Commonwealth countries.  The remaining costs we will have to fund from our sales, unless there’s a marvellously generous donor out there somewhere!
